Introducing Ceri Wheeldon - Editor, Founder of Fab after Fifty Website

Why did I set up the website Fabafterfifty.co.uk?

I believe that life is for living at all ages, and that 50 is far too young to be sidelined or made to feel invisible. At 50 many of us will quite literally have just reached life’s midway point, with 1 in 6 of us likely to reach 100! With potentially another 50 years to go it is time to start planning for the future, not mourning the past. There is plenty of time for reinvention with the potential for new careers, friendships, relationships, confidence and joie de vivre!

With so much negativity in the press, I felt I had to take a stand, and help redefine perceptions of today’s 50plus women. We are a vibrant, talented group of people, resourceful and tenacious with lots to offer society and each other.

Far from taking to our rocking chairs we are setting up businesses, writing books, climbing mountains, travelling, volunteering across the globe, running marathons. We are living life to the full. We just need to ensure that this message gets across to society at large.
Yes we have challenges in life, but we also have the life experience to enable us to confront those challenges. With input from regular and guest contributors and the community of readers on health, fitness, finance, style, career relationships , lifestyle and more, at Fabafterfifty we can share, inform and inspire to ensure that all women can celebrate the second half of life as the best half!

With feisty role models such as Donna Africa, who are happy to wave the flag and prove that reinvention is possible, we can all be inspired to be fab after 50. We are the ‘can do’ generation. We are used to setting our own rules and changing boundaries and perceptions.

Life is for living. And life after 50 is Fabulous!

Coroner in call for lessons to be learned from my late Sweet Soul Sister Krista tragic suicide 21st April 2012

My sweet soul sister Krista's Coroner's inquest was held on Friday 20th April 2012 (ten months on after her tragic suicide on the 28th/ 29th June 2011) at the Norwich Court presided by Norfolk Coroner William Armstrong.

Published in EDP24 Norwich Evening News http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/coroner-calls-for-lessons-to-be-learned-after-norwich-woman-s-suicide-1-1355871

The inquest heard that on June 28th June 2011, Krista should have been seen by a member of the crisis team (Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust) but was not. Trust policy was that a revisit should have been made and family members called within 4 hrs of the attempted failed visit but this was not done!

It was not until the following day 9.45pm in the evening, the next day that they called me and I gave them permission to bring in the police, to force entry into my sister's apartment, of which they did to discover my dear sweet sister Krista's dead rigamortis body.

Norfolk Coroner William Armstrong said there were "significant" failings in the care given to Krista which which were very "disturbing" and most alarming was the lack of any real meaningful action betwen June 28 and the next day 29th June, which he said was"unjustified and unacceptable"

Norfolk Coroner William Armstrong, has called for lessons to be learned folllowing the tragic death of my sweet soul sister Krista's suicide, while suffering from severe depressive illness.

Toxicology report found no traces of drugs or alcohol.

I spoke to Norwich Evening News reporter Peter Walsh that I felt "if more prompt action was taken she could have been alive today!"

I will never forget you Kris and you are in my heart, soul and mind everyday.

Hopefully, by reporting the injustices of your tragic life Krista, you will save others, my dear sweet soul sister Kris.

May you be at peace now Krista.

R.I.P

Love you,

Your Soul Sister
